Intend to travel spending in Singapore? Well, you need to know and understand the GST. Is GST it?
GST stands for Goods and Service Tax or Goods and Services Tax imposed in Singapore since 1994 with an initial value of 3%. The value of this experience some increase in taxes.
Began in July 2007 valid until the new GST rate of 7%. Every tourist who buys goods in all areas of Singapore and subject to GST, can make a claim for the tax return when we come out of Singapore.
There are two GST refund operators, namely the Global Refund and Premier Tax Free. The shops that work with both operators are usually put up a sign "Tax Refund" or one of the operator logo GST.
Do not hesitate to ask about this GST refund program, because they usually charge extra for this GST refund. Terms of GST refund is:
1. Shop at stores that are affiliated with Global Refund to sign the words "Tax Free Shopping" or "Premier Tax Free".
2. Spending a minimum value that can be claimed is 100 Singapore dollars (including GST).
3. Invite the Global Refund checks or Premier Tax Free Refund from the store.
4. Show your passport to get a check or voucher, because we must be aged 16 years or more.
5. Check the date of purchase and the purchase value (including GST), claims can only be done in a period of 2 months after purchase.
6. Sign the Return Form including the selection of the type of return whether cash, check or via credit card. Remember, Form Returns can only be obtained at the store where we shop.
7. Show items purchased with a check or voucher Premier Global Refund Tax Free, Form Returns, Memorandum Accept (invoice), Passport and Boarding Pass / Ticket to the Customs officer (Custom Verfication) in Hall / Changi Airport Departure Lounge. Remember, the GST can not be claimed for departure by land or sea.
8. After obtaining the approval of customs officers, went to the counter of Global Refund or Premier Tax Free at the bridge of departure to get a refund in cash, cashier's check, shopping vouchers or credited through our credit card.
9. Stores that are not incorporated in GST refund program run their own GST refund program. Do not hesitate to ask the terms of repayment, because the policies differ between stores.
In addition to the GST, know the best time to shop in Singapore. The best time is during Christmas and New Year Season Great Singapore Sale (between May to July), and during the Chinese New Year (Lunar).

Tax is definitely one of the biggest worries in Singapore. And that is what makes Singapore one of the most expensive places to live. I hope Govt. do something to lower the taxes.
